OVERVIEW
The VRS program and system files are stored in a directory called
\VRS90 (unless you named it something else). Your vehicle data
files are stored in subdirectories belonging to \VRS90.
When you installed the VRS, a DEMO subdirectory and a VRS1 sub-
directory were created. The Example vehicle was put into the DEMO
area and your vehicles should go in the VRS1 area. You can create
additional subdirectories if you want to "group" your vehicles into
different areas on your disk. For example, you could put hourly
vehicles into one area and odometer vehicles into another. Create
these subdirectories using the DOS CD command!
** THE VRS DOES NOT CREATE OR REMOVE DIRECTORIES FOR YOU. **
If you run the DOS TREE command on your hard disk, it should show
the following:
Path: \VRS90
Sub-directories: DEMO
VRS1

ADD
Press the A key to add a vehicle. Enter the directory, filename,
O/H, start-date and a description of the vehicle. Valid characters
for the directory and filename include A-Z, 0-9 and the hyphen. En-
ter O if you are tracking this vehicle by odometer or H if you are
tracking it by hours. The start-date is used by the Cost Per Mile
report and should be set to the very first payment or cost for this
vehicle. The start-date will usually be the same as the ID/Reg Date
Purchased. The description displays on the Main Menu when the ve-
hicle is selected for use.
NOTE: The VRS does not create directories for you. The directory
name must match an existing directory on your hard drive or
the vehicle files can NOT be added. You must use the DOS CD
command to create a directory if it does not exist.
Error Messages:
DIRECTORY WAS NOT FOUND - Use the View option to verify that
the directory name you entered physically exists.
DIRECTORY, FILE & O/H MUST BE ENTERED - You can not add a new
vehicle without entering all of these fields.
DUPLICATE FILE NAME - A vehicle with the same name already
exists in the directory you specified. If you deleted a ve-
hicle using the Delete option but did not physically remove
the vehicle data files by using the DOS DELETE command, then
you will also get this message.
CHANGE
You can only change the vehicle description, the start-date or the
O/H field. If you change the vehicle that is selected, you must re-
select it.
DELETE
Use this to remove a vehicle that is no longer being tracked. The
vehicle is removed from the VRS but the vehicle files are not
physically removed from your disk. You must delete them with the
DOS DELETE command.
NOTE: You can not delete a vehicle if it is selected for use.
If you accidentally delete a vehicle and want to recover the data
files, add the vehicle (using the same filename) into another dir-
ectory. Then from DOS, copy all the data files from the old direct-
ory into the new one.
TOTAL
Pressing the T key gives you the total number of vehicles.
VIEW
Press V to display a TREE-like representation of the VRS directory
paths. You can use this to verify what subdirectories and vehicle
data files are on your hard drive.
SELECT
The file name of the selected vehicle (the one being used) is shown
at the top left of the screen. Press the S key to select another
vehicle, then highlight any field of the vehicle and press Enter.
